Much of the research with aggregates from crushing of construction and demolition waste (CDW) has focused primarily on the mechanical behavior of concrete made with these aggregates. This research aims at to study the properties of concrete made with recycled concrete aggregates (RCA), besides addressing the mechanical properties, the durability issues will be focused on the carbonation. To control the characteristics of recycled aggregate, they were produced in the laboratory with the water/cement ratios: 0,85, 0,56 and 0,43, in order to result in three types of aggregates with different porosities. After 63 days of curing under water, the concrete was crushed and used as partial replacement of natural aggregate (NA) in a new concrete which was made with a water/cement ratio of 0,64. The RCA was used to replace the NA at various levels of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%. Prior to employ the RCA, it has been pre-wetted with levels of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of water absorption on the total residue. To check the durability of the new concrete when exposed to CO2, the accelerated carbonation test was carried out, performed in a climatic chamber with a constant atmosphere of 1% CO2 and relative humidity of 70% ± 5%, in which the concrete remains for 147 days. The results reading from the carbonation depth at the ages 1, 3, 7, 28, 63, 91 and 147 days, show a similar behavior for both, concrete reference and concrete with RCA. Only concrete that incorporate a high percentage of replacement shows an increase in carbonation depth in relation to the reference concrete. Based on the results it is possible to infer that at replacements of NA to RCA lower than 50%, for any content of pre-wetting, the carbonation depth observed is the same for reference concrete and concrete with RCA.pt_BR
