In order to deepen the knowledge about the characteristics of personality of organizational leadersand their quality of life, this thesis is composed of theoretical and empirical articles. The first of them deals with A Panorama of Brazilian Researches on the Assessment of the Personality and the second on Characteristics of the Personality of Organizational Leaders and the relationship with the Quality of Life. The theorical article was to make a survey of the Brazilian studies on assessment of personality, in the first place in the period between 1967 and 2009. For this purpose, a bibliographic survey of articles was carried out through the “BVS - Psi Journals” Database. There were found a total of 131 citations of national articles. Subsequently, we chose to analyze the publications from the last six years, obtaining 30 articles, which were classified according to the methodology applied, the majority of which was configured as quantitative research (19). The studies have employed different theories of personality in their theoretical basis, among which one can highlight the psychoanalytic and the behaviorist ones. The theme in question has been studied mainly through psychological evaluations, in which appeared with greatest frequency the usage of the projective Rorschach and Zulliger Tests. The heterogeneity of the studied groups was also a factor taken into consideration. The second research was characterized as descriptive and co relational. This study aimed to investigate those personality characteristics of organizational leaders have in relation with their quality of life. The sample wascomposed of 100 leaders of companies from Rio Grande do Sul state (‘gauchas’) 77% of them being men and 23% women. For both groups of leaders, the tests BFP - Battery Factorial of Personality together with the instrument of the World Health Organization for the Quality of Life QOL/WHO in its brief version, and a socio demographic questionnaire were applied. The main results indicated that there are significant negative correlation between all facets of the QOL and the Neuroticism factor and positive associations between all dimensions of QOL and the Extroversion factor. Indicating that being more communicative, active, responsive and gregarious and having greater emotional stability are characteristics that positively affect the heal th of the studied leaders. These results may help in the planning of future interventions aimed at promoting the health of these individuals.en
